HEADSTONES AND MARKERS
Headstone and or Marker concrete mounting base must be no wider than the plot (four (4) feet) and must have a six (6) inch wide margin on all four sides of the Headstone/Marker and be flush with the grass to facilitate mowing. This results in a maximum of thirty six inch (36") width for the actual engraved Headstone/Marker for a single burial plot. When Husband and Wife are buried alongside each other, the Headstone/Marker can be twice the width of a single burial plot.
No concrete structure, marker, or headstone shall be placed or removed in the Panaca Cemetery without authorization from the Cemetery Committee. Seventy-two (72) hour notice is required before setting a headstone.
A permanent marker must be provided by the family or responsible party within one year of burial OR a $100 location fee will be assessed for headstone placement.
TEMPORARY MARKERS
Temporary markers should be removed within one year of their placement by the family of the deceased. This may be done without notice.
MONUMENTS & DECORATIONS (i.e., Benches, Statues, Flagpoles etc.)
Unauthorized placement of headstones/markers is not allowed. A plot shall have no more than one headstone. All headstones must be set at the head of the plot. Footstones are prohibited. Any additional plaques must be attached to the headstone. All headstones/monuments must be installed with a concrete base flush with the grass and having a minimum six (6) inch flat apron to facilitate mowing around the headstone/monument. The Cemetery Committee shall have the right to re-grade plots and reset headstones if required. ALL DECORATIONS must be placed on the headstone’s concrete base/apron, Glass and metal containers and wire hooks are prohibited. These requirements are for ease of mowing and prevention of damage to the lawn mower, trimmers, and headstones. Memorial Day decorations that are not on the six (6) inch apron around the headstone/memorial will be removed and disposed of one week following the holiday.
CREMAIN HEADSTONES
A plot with 2 cremains is allowed only one headstone. There should be space on the headstone for a second urn’s identity information in the event of an additional cremains burial in the future. A possible alternative would be to attach a plaque to the existing headstone.
FLAGPOLES
Flagpoles must be directly adjacent to the headstone base and must be easily removable. This requirement is for backhoe access to future graves. All flagpoles must be approximately twenty (20) feet tall. Flags must be in good condition without fraying or fading. Flags and flagpole maintenance are NOT the responsibility of the Cemetery Committee or groundskeeper.
PRE-BURIAL HEADSTONES AND MARKERS
Those wishing to Place headstone(s) or marker(s) prior to interment must first purchase plot(s) and notify committee of intentions. This is required to ensure proper location is marked prior to installation.
