The Panaca Cemetery was established in 1864 when the town was first founded. It has gone through several organizations during its existence, first being owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who at one point requested Lincoln County to care for and operate it. At some future point the county decided it did not want to operate or be responsible for the Panaca Cemetery. At that time, a few residents formed the Panaca Cemetery Corporation and the county deeded ownership over to the newly formed Corporation and remains ownership to date. Members of the Panaca Cemetery Corporation, all of whom serve voluntarily are to be residents of Panaca, and shall include at least one Panaca Town Board member. Current committee members nominate candidates to fill open positions according to the bylaws. Officers of the committee shall be voted on by the committee members.
The cemetery is planted in lawn and is mowed, watered, weeded and maintained at no cost to the families who have chosen to lay their loved ones to rest in the Panaca Memorial Park. This cost is covered by The fees charged for plots and burials, donations, and some help from the Panaca Town Board. The Plot fees, Burial fees, and Donations are also used to purchase and repair tools, fencing, weed control, water lines, sprinkler parts, lawn seed, and fertilizer as well as maintaining the buildings. The fees are also used to maintain the well and pumping system owned by the Panaca Cemetery Corporation to irrigate the property.
Panaca Cemetery Corporation is an official nonprofit organization filed with the State of Nevada
